Each device in a computer network needs an uniquely assigned IP
address. The IP address might be statically or dynamically assigned
to a device.
Static IP address is assigned by a network
administrator. The IP address remains static or unchanging. You
have to configure device manually to respond to that specific
address. The IP address must be unique on the network.
Dynamic IP address is dynamically assigned each time,
when the network device starts. The device broadcasts a special
request for an IP address to the network. An upstream device,
usually a DHCP server, responds with an IP address that the device
configures itself to use.
