Keil C51 v7.50 Supports Mentor M8051EW

Plano, TX: Keil Software today announced the C51 Development Suite Version 7.50 has been updated with full support (including device simulation) for the memory expansion of the Mentor M8051EW 8-bit Soft Core. The M8051EW is a complete high performance 8051 IP core that offers several extended features including:

  • High-speed, 2-cycle 8051 CPU core with wait-state support for slow program and external data memory.
  • Up to 1 MByte RAM or ROM, accessible by a choice of interfaces.
  • 8052-compatible peripheral set including UART and timers.
  • Flexible Interrupt controller, up to 15 sources, and 4 priority levels.
  • Instruction extension for Flash ROM programming.

The M8051EW Product Datasheet is available at: www.mentor.com/inventra/cores/catalog/prod_desc/m8051ew_pd.pdf.

Keil Software supports the M8051EW Memory Extension via specific linker directives and a Memory Extension Configuration File. The M8051EW memory interface may be used for Program Code, Constant, and Data Memory Extensions. Detailed information is provided in Application Note 171: Using M8051EW Memory Extension.

The µVision Debugger / Simulator includes complete, timing-accurate simulation of all M8051EW core peripherals. Now in Version 7.50, the uVision Debugger even simulates the memory extension registers and multiple DPTR. This core peripheral simulation may be expanded with user specific extensions using the Advanced Generic Simulation Interface (AGSI) of the µVision Simulator. Examples for such extensions are provided in Application Note 154: Implementing DLLs for User-defined Simulation (AGSI). Silicon designers can avoid costly chip re-designs by using the AGSI to evaluate the performance of their peripheral designs while simultaneously providing debugging support for software engineers.

The Keil PK51 Professional Developer's Kit offers complete development tool support for the user's of M8051EW-based devices. Simulation allows software testing without hardware, provides fast edit-compile-test cycles, improves product quality, and enables reproducible regression test results.
