GENERAL: Using USB Dongle License with Laptop in Low Power Mode

Information in this knowledgebase article applies to:

  • Arm Compiler version 5.xx
  • Arm Compiler version 6.xx

QUESTION

I have a USB dongle based FlexNet license for Arm Compiler and using this USB dongle on a laptop.

The license is working correctly when the laptop is connected either with the docking station or the external charger.

However, if the laptop is battery powered the compiler is not able to check out the license and it results in license errors.

Can you please provide some suggestions on this?

ANSWER

Our suggestion would be to check the settings of the operating system.

During the low power mode, in order to save power, windows automatically shut down the power to USB ports. It surely saves some power, but it can cause problems when you are using a USB dongle based license. In case the USB port is powered down the compiler will fail to check out a license and thus it is necessary to change the corresponding power settings in order to avoid the license errors.
