Overview

Smart Cards, or chip cards, are payment cards (credit cards or debit cards) that incorporate a specialized microcontroller and a secure memory. Most smart cards connect to a smart card reader using eight pins (on the surface of the card). Some smart card devices have an embedded antenna and come in different package sizes.

Keil Software has provided development tools for smart card devices for many years. Our tools support devices from Infineon, Philips, and Samsung.

Smart Card developers may wish to check the ISO 7816 Standard for more information.

Notes Note

  • Due to the secure nature of smart card devices, not all supported chips or vendors are included in the device database or listed on the Keil web site. If you are unsure of the support for a particular device, contact your smart card vendor.
