µVISION DEBUGGER: Debugging i.MX 6 SoloX Devices using SWD Port

Information in this knowledgebase article applies to:

  • Keil MDK version 5

QUESTION

I want to connect the NXP i.MX 6SoloX processor using serial wire (SW) port to be able to use the serial wire trace output (SWO) of the Cortex-M4 core.

However, the ULINK Settings dialog in µVision IDE does not allow me to select SW port instead of JTAG because the drop-down box is greyed out.

Is there any way to connect the device using the serial wire port?

ANSWER

No, according to the NXP i.MX 6SoloX applications processor reference manual, the serial wire debug protocol, and the serial wire trace output (SWO) is not supported for these devices. The option is therefore intentionally greyed out in µVision IDE. These devices only support the JTAG debug interface where the Cortex-A9 and the Cortex-M4 cores are chained.

For more information please refer to the corresponding documentation from the chip vendor's website.
