MDK MIDDLEWARE: Maximum Number of USB Sticks Supported by Middleware

Information in this knowledgebase article applies to:

  • MDK-Middleware USB Component

QUESTION

Users can select up to 4 USB devices and 4 USB hosts in the Run time management of µVision IDE. Does this number mean that at one time 4 USB host controllers can be enabled using the USB component of MDK-Middleware and 4 USB sticks can be connected to the USB interface available on the demo board?

ANSWER

In theory, yes, it means that there could be 4 Host controllers and 4 USB ports to which one could connect a USB Flash disk to each port. In practice, the maximum number of ports that we have seen on embedded boards is 2. We are not aware of any embedded device that supports more than 2 USB Host controllers (or 2 ports).
