C51: Using C51 6.12 with a Version 8 Installation

QUESTION

I have got C51 Version 8, but for legacy reasons, I need to use C51 Version 6.12.

Is it possible to get this setup?

ANSWER

C51 Version 6.12 can be installed in addition to Version 8 as described below:

• Install and activate the license of the C51 Version 8.

• Download the attachment from this knowledgebase article and unzip the content in the folder Keil\C51V612.

• In the file Keil\TOOLS.INI section [C51] make a duplicate of the string LIC0= under the name SN=. The content should look like:

  [C51]
  LIC0=12345-12345-12345-12345-12345-12345
  SN=12345-12345-12345-12345-12345-12345
  

• Open the dialog Project - Components, Environment and Books, Folders/Extensions, disable the option Use Settings from TOOLS.INI and enter the following strings for the BIN/INC/LIB folder:

  BIN: C:\Keil\C51V612\BIN
  INC: C:\Keil\C51V612\INC
  LIB: C:\Keil\C51V612\LIB
  

Projects with these settings are translated using the C51 Version 6.12. Other projects may be translated with C51 Version 8.
