Shut down a FlexNet Publisher

The shutdown procedure of a FlexNet Publisher depends on the platform you are using.

  • Avoid using the Windows Task Manager, or kill -9 on Unix/Linux, to terminate the server daemons. Processes terminated this way might not end gracefully and can cause problems when restarting the server.
  • If you must forcibly shut down a server, always stop lmgrd before armlmd.

Stopping a Windows license server

Stop a Windows floating license server using the graphical user interface:

  1. Start the lmtools.exe program. Refer to Install FlexNet Publisher Software.
  2. Click the Start/Stop/Reread tab.
  3. Check the Force Server Shutdown checkbox.
  4. Click the Stop Server button to shut down the server.

Stopping a Windows or Unix/Linux license server from the command line

Go to the directory containing the floating license server software. At the command prompt, type:

lmutil lmdown -q -c license_file_name

license_file_name specifies the license file name (with the fully qualified path) that starts the server.
