Configure Flash Download

The target driver controls Flash downloading.

  1. Button Options for Target Use Options for Target - Utilities to open the dialog.

    Select Target Driver

  2. Select Use Target Driver for Flash Programming and enable Use Debug Driver.
  3. Optionally, enable Update Target before Debugging to program the Flash memory whenever a debugging session is started. The download is processed only when the binary was updated since the last Flash programming step (this feature is to avoid unnecessary reprogramming sequences).

    • When switching between µVision instances, use the explicit "Load" button to ensure that the image of the current target is downloaded to Flash.
    • When disabled and the application was not downloaded manually to Flash, you can enable the option Options for Target - Debug - Settings - Debug - Verify Code Download to ensure program correlation between the target system and the µVision debugger.
  4. Click the Settings button to display the Flash Download Setup dialog.

    Flash Download Setup

The Flash Download Setup dialog consists of three configuration groups:

    • Download Function defines operations that are executed whenever programs are downloaded to Flash.
    • RAM for Algorithm defines the address space in which programming algorithms are loaded and executed.
    • Programming Algorithm defines the programming algorithms based on the memory map and Flash devices used.

  • If the screen shows the Pack tab, then go to Pack Options to modify CMSIS Pack debug description settings.
  • Init File can execute special commands or functions that prepare the device for Flash downloading. For example, to initialize the external BUS when required.
