Checking Serial I/O

To check the serial output from the MEASURE program, connect the COM serial cable on the board to an unused COM port on your development PC. Use a terminal emulation program, such as Microsoft Windows HyperTerminal, to display the serial data on your PC monitor.

To start the Microsoft Windows HyperTerminal application, select Start — Programs — Accessories — Communication — Hyperterminal.

  1. Enter a Name for the new connection, for example: MCB900.

  2. Select the PC COM port you used for downloading in Connect To, then click OK.

  3. Select 9600 Bits per second, 8 Data bits, Parity None, Stop bits 1 and Flow control None.

  4. Click OK. Disconnect the power from the MCB900 board and move the jumper from the RESET position to the RUN position, then reconnect power to the board.

The program displays a menu of commands and waits for keyboard input via the HyperTerminal program.

When the Command: prompt displays, enter S, then the Enter key to start the program gathering data from the P1 and P2 ports.

When the Command: prompts displays again, enter D and the Enter key. The terminal emulator continuously displays the hexadecimal value of both serial ports.

The output looks like the following display:
