To check the serial output from the BLINKY program, connect a Male/Female DB9 serial cable (no longer than 10ft/3m) from the COM1 serial port on the board to an unused COM port on your development PC. Use a terminal emulation program, such as Microsoft Windows HyperTerminal, to display the serial data on your PC monitor.
To start the Microsoft Windows HyperTerminal application, select Start — Programs — Accessories — Communication — HyperTerminal.
- Enter a Name for the new connection, for example: MCB2130.
- Select the PC COM port COM1 under Connect Using.
- Select 9600 Bits per second, 8 Data bits, Parity None, Stop bits 1 and Flow control None.
- Click OK. The serial message containing the value of AIN0 from the MCB2130 board displays continuously in the HyperTerminal window, as shown below. Adjusting the potentiometer on the MCB2130 board changes the AIN0 Result value displayed.
