µVISION1: RUNNING A BATCH FILE/EXECUTABLE FILE BEFORE BUILD

QUESTION

I have written a batch file that generates one large temporary assembly file from several smaller ones. I want to run this batch file automatically before every build of my project. How can I do this?

ANSWER

This is easy to achieve by following the steps below:

1. Choose Edit Project from the Project menu.
2. Click on the Add button and select your batch file.
3. Select your batch file in the Source Files list and click on the Move Up button until it is at the top of the list. This will ensure that it is executed first.
4. Uncheck the Execute after Link/Lib option to ensure that it is only executed at the start of the build.
5. Enter any arguments for the batch file into the Args box.
6. Click on OK.

The same method can be used for executables and command files.
