GENERAL: WINDOWS NT CANNOT FIND CTL3DV2.DLL

Information in this article applies to:

  • C166 Version 3.12
  • C251 Version 2.14
  • C51 Version 5.50

SYMPTOMS

In Windows NT, I receive the following error message:

File Error: Cannot Find CTL3DV2.DLL

and Windows NT presents one of the following error messages:

Cannot run 16-bit Windows program.
This program requires a newer version of Windows.

Or

Cannot run the 16-bit program.
The application is not supported by Windows NT.

Or

Can't run 16-bit Windows program.
One of the library files needed to run <path>\<program> is damaged.
Please reinstall this application.

CAUSE

This occassionally happens on Windows NT systems when a dll gets "lost" or "corrupted" by another application. This is usually an internal problem with NT generated by a "rogue" application. The only effect on the Keil tools is that the DLL in question is absent or corrupted and the Keil applications are unable to run.

RESOLUTION

A solution to dll problems cited on the Microsoft web site is often helpful in this situation. The URL is:
