ARM: generated Flash Programming Algorithm not visible

Information in this knowledgebase article applies to:

  • MDK-ARM V5

I carefully followed the instructions to create a new Flash Programming Algorithm, but the file is not visible at the list of Supplied Algorithms (Options for Target - Debug - Settings - Flash Download - Add).

This happens if Debug Information was turned off at Options for Target - Output.

Turn on Debug Information at Options for Target - Output.

  • the template project has Debug Information enabled on purpose
  • without debug information the Dialog is not able to read out the information from the ELF file to display in the dialog (hence not displayed).
  • even after loading the Flash Algorithm into the RAM of the device to run the programming, the debug information of the algorithm is required as the debugger is executing individual functions implemented by the algorithm and the PC and breakpoint required for this are set based on the debug information contained in the FLM/FLX files (where a functions entry point is and where it returns).
