GENERAL: MDK-ARM V5 on a Mac

Information in this knowledgebase article applies to:

  • MDK-ARM V5

QUESTION

Is it possible to run MDK-ARM on a Mac?

ANSWER

MDK-ARM requires a Windows Operating System, as confirmed by the System Requirements Overview.

However, Windows can be installed in a Virtual Machine (Parallels, VMware Fusion, VirtualBox,...) on a Mac.

Keil does not explicitly comment on any such solution. For this Knowledgebase article we can only summarize customer experiences:

  • Having installed Parallels Desktop for Mac, it is recommended to install Windows 7. There seem to be issues, i.e. at detecting USB interfaces with Windows 10, resulting in problems connecting to a ULINK Debug adapter.
  • Also, it may happen that scaling fails on High-DPI (Retina) displays. In this case modifying the VM screen resolution can help.
