µVISION DEBUGGER: SAM V71 EDBG debug drivers

Information in this knowledgebase article applies to:

  • SAM V71 Xplained Ultra Board
  • MDK-ARM Version 5.xx

QUESTION

I'm trying to use the SAM V71 Xplained Board in MDK-ARM via Atmel Embedded Debugger (EDBG) for on-board debugging. But my system fails to install these drivers.

Inspite of failed driver installation, 'EDBG' devices appear in Device Manager, but it is not possible to debug the board using this interface. Are these drivers part of MDK-ARM and if not, where can I get them ?

ANSWER

These EDBG drivers are not part of MDK-ARM.

These devices do appear in device manager but are marked with a yellow icon which means that drivers for this device (interface) are not properly installed

As explained in the Atmel User Guide, this driver is included in the Atmel Studio package. To use EDBG to program and debug this board, you must download and install the Atmel Studio.

That said, MDK-ARM supports boards with an on-board, CMSIS-DAP interface through the CMSIS-DAP driver. So, the EDBG driver is not required to debug this board using MDK-ARM
