SWPACK: Error: Device not found or not included in Device Database

Information in this knowledgebase article applies to:

  • MDK-ARM Version 5

SYMPTOM

With MDK-ARM V5 installed I open an example project offered in the former µVision 4 format.

Unfortunately errors are displayed:

The Project references devices, files or libraries that are not installed...

Download and Install: Third Party Device Support...

Error: Device not found...

at error windows like these:

CAUSE

µVision can't locate the configured device in the Device Database, because a user-specific Device Database is used. We i.e. are aware of such a situation when selecting STM32Cube firmware examples for the STM32L0 series.

RESOLUTION

Install the corresponding Legacy Pack into your Keil installation folder.

  1. Next open µVision
  2. select File - Device Database
  3. select the device out of the list of devices offered
  4. finally rebuild your project

Note:

If this user specific Device Database is not installed permanently such error messages may still pop up!

In this case either just ignore the error and continue to build your project as usual

or select Project - Manage - Migrate to Version 5 Format.
