µVISION: Building a Project Always Rebuilds All files

Information in this knowledgebase article applies to:

  • MDK-ARM - Version 3.xx and later.

QUESTION

Every time I build my project, µVision always builds all of the modules instead of just the modules that changed. What can cause that to happen?

ANSWER

There are two project settings in your µVision project can make this happen:

  • You have the Create Batch File option enabled in your project (see Options for Target, Output tab). Because this setting always creates a batch file, a complete build is performed.
  • You have set the Cross-Module Optimization option in Options for Target, Target tab. Setting this option creates a linker feedback file on the first pass, which then requires a second pass to remove unused functions from the application.
