µVISION: Syntax coloring with several file extensions

Information in this knowledgebase article applies to:

  • µVision V4.50.00 and later

QUESTION

Is there a way to get the editor in µVision to recognise any file extension allowing a correct syntax highlighting?

SYMPTOM

Just the default file extensions are allowing a syntax coloring

ANSWER

Please open the file global.prop in folder i.e. C:\Keil\UV4. If not existing already, please enter the following lines, example for Assembler-Files:

def_asm=$(file.patterns.asm)
file.patterns.asm=$(def_asm);*.exa

example for C-Files:

def_cpp=$(file.patterns.cpp)
file.patterns.cpp=$(def_cpp);*.exc

while *.exa and *.exc represent your own file extension. Additional extensions can be entered separated by an semicolon, i.e.:

def_cpp=$(file.patterns.cpp)
file.patterns.cpp=$(def_cpp);*.exc;*.exd;*.exf

Save the file and restart µVision.
