ULINK: UNLOCKING FREESCALE KINETIS MEMORY WITH ULINK

Information in this knowledgebase article applies to:

  • ULINK2, ULINK-ME and ULINKpro

PROBLEM

With a Freescale Kinetis K60 board, when trying to download after using the Flash — Erase menu option or with the Erase Full Chip option set, I get the following message:

Kinetis Device is locked! Do you want to unlock it? Mass erase will be executed!

Clicking OK or Cancel displays the following message:

Cannot access Memory

How do I unlock memory?

SOLUTION

For ULINK2, ULINK-ME and ULINKpro debug adapters, you must make sure the Connect and Reset Options in Options For Target — Debug — Settings are set as follows:

  • The Connect: option must be set to under Reset
  • The Reset: option must be set to HW RESET

After saving these options, try the download again. Memory will unlock and your application should download.

MORE INFORMATION

  • Refer to Debug in the ULINK2 User's Guide.
