ULINK: ACTEL A2F SMARTFUSION TARGET BOARDS

Information in this knowledgebase article applies to:

QUESTION

I receive communication errors trying to download or debug my Actel SmartFusion A2F Evaluation board using ULINK2, ULINK-ME or ULINKpro adapter. What can cause this?

ANSWER

This can happen if the jumpers on the A2F Evaluation or Development boards are not set properly. Especially, if you have previously downloaded the FPGA which requires different jumper settings.

To download or debug the A2F Evaluation Board (A2F-EVAL-KIT), the jumper settings are:

• JP6: 2-3
• JP7: 2-3 (RVI)
• JP10: 2-3 (M3 or L-Debug_ON on older boards)
• J5: Not Installed
• J6: Installed
• J8: Not Installed

To download or debug the A2F Development Board(A2F-DEV-KIT), the jumper settings are:

• SW9: ON (S/W DEBUG rightmost position)
• JP6: 2-3 (V1P5_EXT)
• JP7: 2-3 (RVI)
• JP5: Both jumpers to C1-Single Prog.

Also, make sure you are using MDK-ARM version 4.11 or later which has updated projects and Flash algorithms for Actel SmartFusion targets. You may download the latest MDK-ARM version here.
