µVISION DEBUGGER: DEBUGGING STM32 DEVICES USING ETM

Information in this knowledgebase article applies to:

SYMPTOM

With an MCBSTM32E or MCBSTM32C board, ETM debugging is sometimes erratic using a Signum JTAGJet-Trace adapter.

CAUSE

The TRACE_MODE option in the Debug Initialization File STM32DBG.INI is set for Asynchronous operation.

RESOLUTION

1. Close the debugger.
2. Change the TRACE_MODE option in the Debug Initialization File to Synchronous: TRACEDATA Size 4.
3. Restart the debugger.
