µVISION: ERROR INSTALLING TO A 64-BIT OPERATING SYSTEM FROM KEIL CD

Information in this knowledgebase article applies to:

  • All CD Versions before 05.2010

SYMPTOM

When I try to install the Keil tools onto a Windows 64-bit operating system using a Keil install CD, I receive an error stating that the file version is not compatible with my version of Windows. Can I install the Keil tools on a Windows 64-Bit Operating System?

CAUSE

Yes, you can install the Keil tools on a Windows 64-Bit Operating System. This was corrected in CD Release 05.2010. The Setup utility in installation CD's before Release 05.2010 do not detect 64-Bit Operating Systems, but there is a simple workaround.

RESOLUTION

To install from the CDs older than 05.2010, open it using Windows Explorer. This can be done by opening My Computer, right clicking on the CD drive, and clicking Explore. From here you can install a toolset by running Setup.EXE in the folder of the toolset you want to install. For instance, to install the ARM tools, run ARM\Setup.exe to start the ARM installation process.

Alternatively you can download the latest version from the Keil website by clicking here.
