ULINK: SUBKEY ERROR INSTALLING ULINKPRO

Information in this knowledgebase article applies to:

  • ULINK Pro Installation

SYMPTOM

When installing a ULINK Pro adapter under WindowsXP, the installer displays the following message:

Cannot Install Hardware Message

This only seems to happen on 1 particular PC. How can I correct this?

CAUSE

This error can happen when installing a ULINK Pro adapter on a PC whose Windows user session does not terminate properly during log off. Some system processes may still maintain registry key links, causing this installation error.

RESOLUTION

To correct this problem, perform the following steps:

  1. Download and install the UPHClean utility from Microsoft.
  2. From Windows Device Manager (right-click My Computer, click Properties, click Hardware tab, then click Device Manager button) uninstall the Keil ULINK Pro device.
  3. Disconnect the ULINK Pro adapter from the PC.
  4. Restart the PC, and log in as usual.
  5. Reconnect the ULINK Pro adapter to a USB port on your PC and allow Windows to discover and install the ULINK Pro drivers as usual.

The installation should complete without errors. If you continue to have installation problems, please contact Keil Technical Support.
