ARM: ACTEL CORTEX-M1 ENABLED PROASIC3 DEVELOPMENT KIT SUPPORT

SYMPTOM

ULINK is not able to connect to M1A3P device populated on Actel Cortex-M1-enabled ProASIC3 Development Board.

Using ULINK results in a JTAG Communication Failure error message.

CAUSE

The board doesn’t work out of the box with RealView MDK-ARM because it is shipped with programmed Actel’s proprietary FlashPro3 UJTAG debug port instead of standard ARM JTAG port.

RESOLUTION

The FPGA needs to be reprogrammed with Cortex-M1 that uses standard JTAG. After reprogramming it will work with RealView MDK-ARM. The attached document describes the necessary steps to reprogram the FPGA.
