C51: COMPILER DOESN'T WORK WITH BORLAND MAKE

QUESTION

I have been using C51 V3.07 with the Borland C MAKE program. I know this is an old version of the compiler, but the newer versions of C51 don't seem to work with the Borland make. Nothing happens when I start the compiler. Why is this?

ANSWER

C51 Version 4 and later use a DOS extender to get more memory from computers with extended and expanded memory (XMS and EMS). This causes problems with the Borland make utility. There is a version of this utility that does work with Extended-DOS programs. Check with the Borland web site for the latest update.
