µVISION: GETS R206 ERRORS UNDER VISTA OR WINDOWS 7

Information in this article applies to:

  • All Keil Products

SYMPTOM

When I try to run a program that calls the Keil tools, such as a batch file or the µVision IDE, I receive the following error:

R206: NO REGISTRY ACCESS, ADMINISTRATION RIGHTS REQUIRED

but I am logged in with an Administrators account. What can cause this?

CAUSE

µVision requires administrator privileges to access license information. If you have User Account Control enabled in Windows Vista or Windows 7, and you log in as an Administrator, Windows Vista or Windows 7 also logs you in as a Standard User. Depending on how a program gets set up, Windows could run this using the Standard User login.

RESOLUTION

Whenever you run µVision or a batch file that calls the Keil tools, right click on the icon and select Run as Administrator from the context menu.

You may also get a similar message when attempting to enter a license for your Keil tools. In this case, you need to:

  1. Close µVision
  2. Right click the µVision icon or the µVision executable
  3. Select Run as Administrator from the context menu
  4. Open License Management and re-enter your LIC
