µVISION DEBUGGER: SIMULATION CANNOT BE STOPPED ON TOSHIBA LAPTOP

Information in this article applies to:

  • µVision Version 3

QUESTION

I am using µVision3 on my Toshiba Tecra S1 notebook. The simulation starts immediately with execution after I enter the debugger. I cannot stop the execution. Sometimes when the stop button is active in the toolbar, the debugger starts running unpredictably. Is this a threading problem?

ANSWER

No, this is not problem caused by the µVision3 IDE. Toshiba installs a set of utilities on the Tecra series, which helps to manage the special keys on the laptop. One of these utilities can generate keyboard input events to the active application.

RESOLUTION

Remove some shortcut key definitions from µVision3:

  • Open Edit — Configuration — Shortcut Keys.
  • Select each of the following entries and click Remove Shortcut:
    Debug:Run to Cursor line
    Debug:Step
    Debug:Step out of current Function
    Debug:Step Over

Alternatively, you may redefine these entries with different shortcut key definitions.
