ARTX: NO DHCP ADDRESS FROM WINDOWS 2003 SERVER

Information in this article applies to:

  • ARTX-ARM Version 1.00
  • ARTX-166 Version 1.10

QUESTION

I configured the TCP/IP stack to retrieve an IP address from a DHCP service on my network. The DHCP server is a Windows 2003 Server, but my system does not receive an address and does not use the one that is pre-configured. What could be wrong?

ANSWER

The behavior of the DHCP service in Windows 2003 does not appear to be standard. Until there is a fix in ARTX, you may use the following work-around:

  • Open the file ANet_Config (for ARTX-ARM) or AT166_Config (for ARTX-166) in Configuration Wizard mode.
  • Goto Ethernet Network Interface - Local IP Address.
  • Change Address bytes 1, 2, 3 and 4 to 0.

You should only use this work-around in environments that have a DHCP service available.
