ULINK: INCOMPATIBLE MOTHERBOARD/USB CHIPSETS

Information in this article applies to:

  • ULINK USB-JTAG Adapter
  • ULINK2 USB-JTAG Adapter

QUESTION

The ULINK serial number and the Device ID are displayed correctly in the µVision IDE, but flashing or debugging operations fail giving various errors. What can cause this?

ANSWER

There are a few southbridge chipsets used on PC motherboards that are known for unstable USB communication. This especially happens with USB 1.1 peripheral devices, like ULINK.

Known chipsets are:

  • nVidia nForce2
  • nVidia nForce3
  • nVidia nForce4
  • SiS748

There are probably more chipsets that have this problem. If you experience the problem described above and your chipset is not yet in the list, contact Keil Technical Support.
