Information in this article applies to:

  • ULINK USB-JTAG Adapter
  • ULINK2 USB-JTAG Adapter

QUESTION

When I try to download my software to an Infineon XC161, XC164, or XC167 device I get the following error:

JTAG Communication Failure

What is the reason for this problem?

ANSWER

The OCDS interface of your device does not work or is incorrectly connected. Check your hardware for correct pull-up / pull-down resistors on the OCDS pins.

The following configurations disable the OCDS interface on an XC16x device:

  • Bootstrap mode on: P20.0 / BSO = 0 when P20.5 / EA = 1 (use on-chip ROM)
  • Bootstrap mode on: P0L.4 / BSL = 0 when P20.5 / EA = 0 (using off-chip ROM)
  • on XC164: ensure that TRST uses an 100 KOhm pull-down and is correctly connected to ULINK.

On the MCB-XC167 Board make sure that BSO and BSL are off when working with ULINK.
