MCBXC167: EXTERNAL FLASH / RAM DO NOT WORK PROPERLY

Information in this article applies to:

  • MCB-XC167 Evaluation Boards

SYMPTOM

When trying to flash the External Flash (IC2), it fails and µVision reports verification errors.

The external RAM also does not seem to work in my application, nor when I try to use it to download my application there (with MON166 or ULINK).

CAUSE

Very early versions of the MCB-XC167 were missing a configuration resistor. The missing resistor R37 is a 10 kOhm pull-down resistor on P0.6 and sets the bus type (BTYP). If it is missing, the MCB-XC167 operates with an 8-bit demultiplexed bus instead of the 16-bit bus that is required.

RESOLUTION

Populate a 10 kOhm resistor for R37. You may also contact the Keil Support Team if you have difficulties.
