µVISION DEBUGGER: CAN'T DEBUG WITH USB TO RS232 ADAPTER

Information in this article applies to:

  • µVision IDE All Versions

QUESTION

I have a PC which does not have an RS232 serial port. I use a USB-to-RS232 serial adapter cable to connect the PC to my Cypress FX2 board.

When I try to debug, I receive the following message:

Connection to Target System Lost

If I use another PC that has an RS232 serial port I can connect and debug with no problems. Does the debugger work with a USB-to-RS232 adapter?

ANSWER

It depends on the adapter. Good quality adapters work very well. Lower quality adapters may have difficulty communicating with the PC and cause the error described above.
