MCB2100: CANNOT COMMUNICATE VIA THE CAN PORTS

Information in this article applies to:

  • MCB2100 Evaluation Board Version 1.0

QUESTION

I cannot communicate via either of the CAN ports on the MCB2100 board. I have checked all of my CAN settings, and I have the jumpers set correctly on the board. What am I doing wrong?

ANSWER

The MCB2100 has two CAN ports on the board: CAN1 and CAN2. CAN1 and CAN2 connect to IC4 and IC5 respectively. CANL and CANH signals should be connected to pins 2 and 7 of the CAN ports.

Early versions of the MCB2100 board had incorrectly wired CAN ports. The IC's were incorrectly connected to pins 4 and 8 of the CAN ports. You may modify the board and change the lead to pin 4 of the CAN port to connect to pin 2 and the lead to pin 8 to connect to pin 7. This change will allow CAN communication.
