µVISION: CAN'T EXECUTE C51.EXE, C251.EXE, OR C166.EXE

SYMPTOM

When using 'Translate file', 'Build target' or 'Rebuild all target files', µVision reports the following error:

--- Error: can't execute 'C:\Keil\C166\BIN\C166.EXE' (or C51.EXE or C251.EXE)

The C source file is on a Novell network drive and the filename is longer than 8 characters.

CAUSE

This problem appears to be caused by the Novell Client Version 4.83.

RESOLUTION

Install Service Pack 2 or later of the Novell Client.
