EPM900: INSTALLING THE PKLPC-8K

QUESTION

I currently have the EPM900 with the 4K-limited tools and I've licensed the PKLPC-8K upgrade. How do I install the PKLPC-8K?

ANSWER

Follow these steps to install the µVision LPC Studio (4K version) that came with the EPM900.

1. If you have the Keil evaluation tools (the 2K-limited tools), uninstall them. Make sure to delete the \KEIL\ folder.
2. Reboot your computer.
3. Insert the LPC900 CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive.
4. Install the 4K version of the compiler from the CD.

To upgrade to the PKLPC-8K, you must contact the Keil sales department with the serial number of your EPM900. After upgrading, you will receive a PKLPC-8K serial number.

The necessary files for upgrade are on the bottom of this article under the 'Attached Files' section.

Once you have received the Serial number and have downloaded the files:

1. Run the self-extracting zip file. When prompted, Tell the file to unzip into the \KEIL\ folder. It will automatically overwrite the old files.
2. Open \KEIL\TOOLS.INI in Notepad.
3. Find the line that starts with SN=Philips LPC.
4. Change the line to SN=xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx where xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx is the serial number.
5. Save and close TOOLS.INI.
6. Make sure the emulator is connected to the your computer. If it is not, you will receive a C500: missing security device message when you compile the project.
7. Each of your program modules must be re-compiled using the PK-LPC8K version. Make sure that you use the Rebuild All Target Files option (Project — Rebuild All Target Files) the first time you re-build each project using the PK-LPC8K version.

Note that the serial number provided only works with your board.

Make sure the EPM900 board is not touching anything that could short the connections such as the packing bubble wrap or a metal surface.
