EPM900: TIMEOUT ERRORS WHEN STARTING DEBUG MODE

QUESTION

I have a problem with EPM900. When I enter debug mode, multiple timeout communication errors are reported. For example:

*** Error: Command 'CheckMon()' Timeout
*** Error: Command 'SetPC()' Timeout
*** Error: Command 'ReadMem()' Timeout
*** Error: Command 'GetRegs()' Timeout

What is the reason for these errors?

ANSWER

Most likely you have set the EPM900 for off-chip Oscillator but the off-chip Oscillator is either incorrectly configured or not working.

Select Options for Target - Debug - EPM900 Settings - Oscillator: Internal RC Oscillator. Then re-power the EPM900 Emulator/Programmer and try again. This should solve the problem.
