µVISION DEBUGGER: SERIAL WINDOW UNDER TRISCEND AND CYGNAL

Information in this article applies to:

  • µVision all Versions

SYMPTOM

When using µVision to debug target systems using third-party or chip vendor µVision DLLs (for example, Triscend E5 and Cygnal/SiLabs C8051Fxxx), serial data is not displayed in the serial window.

CAUSE

This is correct operation of µVision. The transmitted and received serial data do not appear in the serial window because the serial RX and TX lines from the device are not connected to the PC.

Some third-party debugger DLLs use the PC's COM port to communicate with the target device.

SOLUTION

You may use a terminal program like Hyperterminal and monitor the data that is coming out of the microcontroller's serial port.
