C166: CAN CONTROLLER FAILS WITH C167CR CPU FA/GA STEP

Information in this article applies to:

  • C166 Version 3.12
  • C166 Version 4.20

QUESTION

We have programmed an application with the Infineon C167CR, but now Infineon is supplying a new CPU stepping (GA step) and our CAN interface software does not work with this CPU step anymore. What can be wrong?

ANSWER

The GA step solves an open problem in previous steps. Using the GA step, you must enable the XBUS peripherals with the bit XPEN in SYSCON.2. In previous steps of the C167CR, the CAN peripheral was always enabled. You must set the _XPEN configuration bit in the START167.A66 file.

This setting was required in the data sheet for previous chip steps, but the CAN interface worked anyway (even without setting this bit).

More information about chip problems of the 166 microcontroller family may be found on the Infineon web side in the errata sheet of the device that you are using.
