µVISION: RUNNING FROM A DOS BOX

Information in this article applies to:

  • µVision Version 2.10

QUESTION

I wish to run the C51 compiler from outside the µVision IDE if possible. I was expecting to be able to run the program from the DOS prompt. But when I tried that, I got an error message that said that the program will not run in DOS mode. The documentation says the tools can be run in the Windows command prompt, but I don't know what this is. How do I run the tools outside the IDE?

ANSWER

The Keil tools are all Windows 32-bit applications. That means you must be running MS Windows 95/98/NT/2000 to use them. The compiler, assembler, linker, and all of the tools may be run in a standard DOS box in Windows. To open a DOS box:

  1. Click on the start button.
  2. Select run.
  3. Type in command.
  4. Hit the [Enter] key.

A window opens that provides a DOS-compatible console. From there, you may type C51 to run the compiler, A51 to run the assembler, and so on. You may need to add a path to the \KEIL\C51\BIN folder.
