MCB167: IS THE CLOCK SPEED 40MHZ OR 20MHZ

QUESTION

Does the MCB167 run at 40MHz or at 20MHz? There seems to be a lot of conflicting information regarding this.

ANSWER

The MCB167 supports the C167 with the 20MHz internal clock. Infineon changed the clock generator several times and originally, the C167 used a 40MHz oscillator that was divided by 2. Now, a PLL is used to double, triple, or quadruple the oscillator speed to get the internal 20MHZ.

So, the C167 runs at 20MHZ internally. And, the MCB167 supports this speed.
