L251: NOSYMBOLS DIRECTIVE AFFECTS OBJECT FILE

Information in this article applies to:

  • C251 Version 2.14

SYMPTOMS

The NOSYMBOLS directive turns off both the listing of symbols and the symbols themselves for the debugger. When linking a file with this option we could not view any local symbols. When this option was removed, the symbols were displayed.

CAUSE

This is the correct behavior of the linker. The NOSYMBOLS directive excludes the symbol table from both the listing file and the object file.

RESOLUTION

To exclude the symbol table from only the listing file use: PRINTCONTROLS(NOSYMBOLS).

To exclude the symbol table from only the object file use: OBJECTCONTROLS(NOSYMBOLS).
