L166: FATAL ERROR 214 (INPUT PHASE ERROR)

SYMPTOMS

When I build my project I get:

FATAL ERROR L214: INPUT PHASE ERROR
MODULE C:\TEST\FOO.OBJ (-----)

My project compiled fine with an older version of the tools. How do I solve this?

RESOLUTION

This problem may be solved by turning off the compiler option 'Keep variables in order'. If that does not work, then contact technical support.

This problem is not present in the version 4 tools.
