µVision Supports ETM with Hitex Emulators

Plano, TX/Karlsruhe, Germany: Keil Software and Hitex Development Tools have teamed-up to to incorporate extensive trace support, using the Hitex Tanto Emulators for ARM-powered microcontroller devices, into the Keil µVision Debugger.

"Many ARM-powered microcontrollers include an Embedded Trace Module (ETM) that offers enhanced application debugging and program testing capabilities. By integrating the capabilities of the Hitex Tanto Emulator series, users of the Keil Development Suite for ARM can combine the benefits of the accurate device simulation in the µVision Debugger with the power of an ETM emulator", said Reinhard Keil, President, Keil Elektronik GmbH.

With ETM, program execution is recorded in detail by the µVision Debugger during testing. Trace recording reduces time spent debugging by allowing you to analyze exact program behavior (on real hardware) and locate complex errors quickly.

The trace buffer synchronizes with your program source and allows you to view register changes for each instruction. In addition, the trace recording may be viewed graphically using the Logic Analyzer built-in to the µVision Debugger.

The Hitex Tanto system supports many advanced features including automated breakpoint handling on conditional ARM instructions. Standard breakpoints stop the program when an instruction is fetched. The Tanto system determines if the instruction was really executed and continues program execution if the instruction was not. This eliminates the need for the user to manually evaluate the condition flags.

The Tanto emulator may be connected to µVision using USB or Ethernet. The Tanto interface is today available through Hitex sales channels.
