hi,
i'm having troubles to connect the keil uVision3 V3.8 to the mcb251. i'm using the following configuration:
IC1 -> AT89C51RE2 IC4 -> empty com1 , 38400 , using 24Mhz crystal RTS: active , DTS: active all cache option is on serial interupt is on
Monitor 51 identification: Not Connected !
jumper setting on MCB251: ext_uart & SRC/D2 & A17 is OFF, all others is ON EA is connected between 1-2
RS232 cable is connected to INT RS232 on MCB251.
please advice nir
"IC1 -> AT89C51RE2"
Have you programmed MON51 into that chip?
no, first time i'm hearing about it. what does it mean...
MON51 is a small piece of software that runs in an 8051 chip:
http://www.keil.com/support/man/docs/mon51/mon51_intro.htm
Before it can run in the chip, it has to be programmed into the chip's Flash memory.
I don't know if your chip supports in-system programming; if not, you will need a piece of equipment called a programmer to program it. Atmel give details about this on their web page for the chip...
ok, thank u.
could this also stop me from downloading program to the uC flash ?
If the chip doesn't support downloading to flash then, obviously, you cannot download to flash!
The Atmel documentation will tell you if downloading is possible and, if it is, what tools are necessary and available to do it.
hi, the chip of course support downloading to flash. i read the "How to prepare the Keil MCBx51 Board Application Note 156 for ISP-Flashing with AtmelWM WinISP" and also "MCBX51: LOADING & DEBUGGING THE ATMEL 89C51RE2" in keil technical support. http://www.keil.com/support/docs/3441.htm did everything according to it, and still the flip software announcing time out error so that means i cannot connect the flip software to the mcbx51.
i'm using com1,38400.
what am i missing please...
for ISP-Flashing with AtmelWM WinISP"
1) WinISP is not an Atmel product, it is a discontinued Philips (NXP) product.
2) I have (fortunately) no idea about Arghmel, but with NXP you sometimes "get through" by lowering the baudrate.
3) if you are using a USB to RS-232 converter that, most likely, is your problem.

No, there is no "of course" about it - that is something that has to be specifically verified from the particular chip documentation.
hi, i'm not using any converters, direct cable rs232 that worked with atmel eval board.
and about the Application Note 156: http://www.keil.com/appnotes/docs/apnt_156.asp "This application note shows how to modify the Keil MCB251 (MCBx51) Evaluation Board so that you can use the WinISP FLASH programming utility from Atmel Wireless and Microcontrollers."
i'm guessing it means FLIP, i'm using the FLIP 3.3.4
lets just say that in atmel evaluation board (AT89STK-11) i succeed to download the hex file to the Flash and it worked fine. but now i'm using keil eval board (MCB251) and i want to do the same thing with the same uC: AT89c51RE2. directly from keil software i couldn't succeed and also from the FLIP software.
so how can i do that simple thing and finally start doing my job ?
thanks
So, look for differences between the two boards!
If you program a chip in the Atmel board, does it run in the Keil board?
the board are very different, and yes it runs in the keil board very well. keil board is very much complex and advance with many IC. so what else can be done ?
Hello, First of all i want to say thank you for trying to assist me, but i'm still stuck with my keil MCB251 evaluation board without knowing how to download program to it or debugging it through keil uVision3 or through any other 3rd party software. Therefore i'm asking if u can redirect me to any other technical support that familiar with this product and probably know how to deal with this problem.
thanks Nir bohadana
Therefore i'm asking if u can redirect me to any other technical support that familiar with this product and probably know how to deal with this problem. when asking micro, e-mail him
if you had asked me I would have recommended contacting Keil technical support.
