New! Forum general / lists per architecture

Hi all,

I think the mixture of posts of all architectures is not the best solution. I'd prefer separated lists. A "search entire forum" would still be needed, but I'd like to see only "my" stuff and not all the other MCU posts.

what are your opinions ?

New! RE: Forum general / lists per architecture

If Keil choose accept your proposal, I would like them to go all the way:

* Have a special zone for C51 UART programming - with downloadable examples and psychological assistance.
* Have a section for bad taste/bad style coding practices. That one is going to be popular.
* "How to bring down a passenger jet and get away with it in 24 hours". Also a massive hit.
* And of course, the quarrel zone!

yes yes yes - this type of reply is indeed really helpful.

That was a simple question regarding the organization of the forum. I was wondering about the way it might be of more help for all users. Putting C51 info together with ARM doesnt make too much sense (in my opinion). So that was was it all was about.

On the other hand I understand the way to put all in one big thread list because it simplifies the posting itself and the forum maintenance.

New! RE: Forum general / lists per architecture

You forgot
* "I'm learning C programming in class, will you please do my homework, I will share answers with my class and look smart, in spite of not learning anything save how to get someone else to do my work!" - for aspiring 'questionable ethics' students
* "I need to make a complete design and would like to try the 'net development' methodology I've heard about. Would you please give me my design, I need schematics, code and of course the PCB layout. NOW!" - no comment as to what this is

Now more serious suggestions, I suspect things are the way they are due to uncertainty of the forum. They may be deciding to leave it be or terminate it. Although forums CAN be a great tool for getting useful and necessary information those who abuse it turn it sour (or in more accurate words exacerbate the forums).

A link to FAQs at the post entry page as well as links that give FAQ references as well as something that asks "Are you positive that this question has not already been asked and answer a week ago? Did you try SEARCH?"

I would suggest partitioning by processor type (this would include all processor specific questions such as assembly and hard ware features), and general C/C++ related questions.

I've asked silly questions myself at times fortunately it's been rare.

New! just look

at e.g. the SILabs forum (and other 'split' fora)

Half the posts are in the wrong subforum

If the general population can not figure out which subforum to post in, then splitting a forum is sheer folly.

I like this format, general forum with 'markers' if you see 'your' marker, you READ the title, if it is a different marker you just glance

New! I think it's a good idea

Although splitting forums generally doesn't work so well - for the reasons Erik stated - the clear distinction here between the different toolsets does seem to work well enough for it to be worthwhile, I think.

New! RE: just look

That is NOT my problem if kids are unable to choose the right forum here.

I know that I want to see e.g: only Arm7 threads.

If you add a switch for the 'markers' everthing will be fine.
So everybody can switch on/off specific families.. that's all I want.

hopeful
G.K.

So what about the generic posts that could be applicable to any and every architecture...?

How about having a filter that automatically moves any initial post containing the character sequences 'plz', 'thankx' or 'send me teh code!!1' to a sin bin area...? ;-)
