Creating your own CAN NetworkOnline — Oct 27, 2009 17.00 CAN is extensively used in automobiles and trucks but has found applications everywhere. There are many application layers available for CAN but it is very easy to develop your own protocol that will fit and simplify your needs. CAN is a useful replacement for slower RS-232 UART based networks and much simpler to implement than either Ethernet or USB. This webinar will teach you the basics of CAN at the hardware level so you can easily troubleshoot problems. Then, how data is inserted in the CAN frame will be discussed using simplified C code. Information not directly required to build a CAN network has been stripped away to the essentials. You learn enough to get a small CAN network running in less than an hour. Included are many real world practical hints and 'gotchas' so you can avoid the common mistakes and get your network running quickly. A brief introduction illustrating the format of several popular high level application layers will be discussed. This includes multi-byte transmission, request/response and periodic data transmission and how you transfer portions of these into your project without overly complicating everything. A demonstration of a real working CAN network will be shown. This is derived from the popular CAN article found at: www.keil.com/download/docs/385.asp Presenter: Bob Boys is product manager for Keil products at ARM. He has more than 20 years experience in embedded system and software development. This webinar will run once at: 5pm GMT, 12pm CST, 10am PST
