Exploting the Debug Features on Cortex-M3

Doulos will be holding a tutorial at Embedded World 2009 introducing the new debug architecture on ARM Cortex™-M3 processor based microcontrollers.

Cortex-M3 implements a new debug system that is in many ways more sophisticated than that of previous ARM cores. This tutorial will explain features and interaction of the various debug components on Cortex-M3:

  • Serial-Wire Debug (SWD) and Serial-Wire Viewer (SWV) interfaces
  • Data Watchpoint and Trace Unit (DWT)
  • Flash Patch and Breakpoint Unit (FPB)
  • Instrumentation Trace Macrocell (ITM)


The tutorial will incude a live demo with the Keil MDK-ARM Microcontroller Development Kit, with hints and tips on how to take advantage of the new debug features on the processor.
